Bridging the Digital Divide in Savannah
Program highlights
SDRA, in partnership with the City of Savannah, has commenced the first phase of a program to provide access to the internet along with equipment and training to citizens and businesses along the Martin Luther King Jr Blvd Corridor. Supported by a a grant from the state of Georgia the program has already provided 25 free computers to residents of Herbert L. Kayton Homes, and established the first Internet Training Center at Tremont Temple Baptist Church.
Installation of fiber along MLK is anticipated to occur by 2010 and will provide residents, community groups, and businesses along the MLK corridor from the Savannah River south to 52nd Street access to low-cost high-speed internet service.
Key partners in the program include the Housing Authority of Savannah, All Walks of Life (AWOL) and Internet Service Provider, Seimitsu.
